Marasi

Ganay ganey hy? Guitar bajana hy? "Marasi" banana hy???

Being a Pakistani, whenever we had showed willingness for performing arts or music. Most of the time we had listened these phrases, either by our family or by our friends.

Now, let's talk about what is meant by "Marasi"?

"Marasi" is the term used for people who are traditional singers and dancers of a number of communities.

Above all, we misunderstood the term "Marasi". We take it as an abuse or something disgraceful, but it's not like that! The word "Marasi" is derived from the word "Miraasi" meaning "inheritance" or "heritage".

We all inherit the heritage of our ancestors. We all follow the footsteps of our forefathers.

It's not that only performing artists or singers are Marasi!

In other words, we all inherit "Miraas" of our ancestors and we all are "Marasi".

Now, let's sing, "Marasi mein, Marasi mera payo, Marasi mera Dadda, Marasi apan saary Marasi an."

Regards,
Sami Liaquat
